Your lost and found

All stuff at my schools goes into lost & found regardless if they know who it belongs to. The schools do put it in the weekly newsletters to check lost & found. At the end of the school yr. all unclaimed stuff goes to the Salvation Army.

I like the idea of giving it to charity. There are son many kids that need coats. Sounds like you could do a Coats For Kids giveaway. I never even looked in our lost and found at school.

Oh yeah, the lost and found used to be in the lunch room until parents complained that EVERYTHING was thrown in the garbage on Friday with no notice. One week they tossed several new coats and the wrong mom was in the right place (she threw a fit!).

Needless to say, the bin got moved over the weekend to were it is now.

Hey guys, it got even better! I replied to the message and the Admin Asst. kept her stand and original message but our new Director (her "boss") agrees with me (and you all too!)

He agrees that we have taken the responciblity away from the students and he will talk with the staff about our (my) conserns about the amount of coats etc.

The other obstical is the lost and found is down the hall FAR from the enrance of hte school so THE LAST thing you see or think of doing is checking it for lost items. Unfortunatly it is right when you come in from recess!

I did thank her for the guidlines...oh yeah, I'm looking how to do this better!

We got a few business to donate two rolling garment racks for jackets and clothes. We post that twice during the year all lost and found will be donated (Thanksgiving and near end of year) to local shelters.

It's normally checked for rotting stuff when it thrown in the pile.

Boy - that does sound overly cumbersome.

At our elementary, the school mounted a closet type clothing pole(about 6' long) with a shelf above it in the lunchroom. All lost and found was placed there, either on hangers or stacked on the shelf. Parents were encouraged to check it frequently - when dropping kids off, picking them up, attending events at school, etc. Teachers also helped kids look for lost items during lunch time.

Periodically notes would go home that all items not picked up by a certain date would be given to charity.
