I think this is a great idea. And if you don't mind, may I add (with adjustments to fit our particular needs) these to the survey I am preparing for our school?

Just as a humor side of things, did you add a spot for the parent to volunteer some time for the fixing/renvovatating? :D

Congratulations on doing this...I think you will find it a great tool! We formed a parent involvement team a few years back to really look at communication/involvement at our school. What we found is that if you have the parents rate the questions rather than just answer them it seems to work better. For example "how do you feel about the quality of our building structure" they could circle from one to ten.

Your questions are great but a little vague, when you ask what you like about the school, are you talking the building, the staff, communication, everything? May I recommend something without , go to the national pta site and look up the Certifictaion of Excellence in parent involvement program. you can down load the questions with that program, I think you may find that beneficial. Although we are a PTO that was the base of our team, before the team scored our school we surveyed parents with questions similiar to that using only ten questions and one fill in spot.

Like i said this is such a great opportunity for your group to really help your school, the info that you can get from doing something like this can be tremendous and turn your school around. One thing that we did to actually get a true feel we had two teacher reps, a school aide, the principal and then five parents on it. The discussion was tremendous and we all learned so much. you really need to keep an open mind and listen to what all members of the team have to say! We have actually taken that info and started a volunteer program (since we saw that as a weakness) and really have flourished.

good luck and please keep me posted, if I can help let me know...it is a great thing!

Our PTO just created a school improvement committee and are looking for input on creating a survey to determine parents' perspectives on the strengths and weaknesses of the school,

The school does a Harris Survey every year but we wanted something less formal. For example, once issue that the school has is pickup and drop off line and how to deal with parents that "don't follow the rules"

We came up with the following 4 questions
=What do you like about the school?
=What do dislike?
=Do you have any suggestions for improvement?
=Comments?

Feedback and/or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks
