We have an incredible amount of sweatshirts & jackets that end up in the Lost & Found, AND NEVER GET CLAIMED! I have had to purge & donate items that have been there too long (over a month) just to keep the cart from overflowing several times this school year already!
Any ideas on how to reduce the volume that gets there in the first place? Or ideas on how to get more of the items reclaimed? Over the years, we have reminded people to check the Lost & Found by using flyers, newsletter mentions, and even a banner hung during Parent-Teacher conferences. The cart is accessible everyday, located in the general area where recesses and after school pick up happens, right next to where we sell Scrip. We do return items that have names written in them, but that is a small percentage of the volume. I'm about ready to walk around with a laundry marker and approach each & every student to label what they're wearing!!
