Hi All -
USA Weekend magazine is looking for inspring volunteers to feature in its annual "Parents who Care" issue.
Details below:
See the examples used last year with respect to the eclectic and uniqueness of what each parent did. They include:
* A doctor who gives free physicals to high school athletes who can't afford them, so they can play scholastic sports
* A mom who gets young childrens' school day off to a spirited, energized start by providing aerobic classes for first-graders, as well as introducing them to healthy diet concepts
>
* A mom who helped connect high school seniors to literally millions of dollars in scholarship opportunities that were otherwise not being taken advantage of.
>
* A dad who launched a 'learning garden' at an elementary school.
Please, please please: Let's get our intentions out to as many of your members and associated communities as possible. Have them email me direct with their summaries of what a parent is doing out there. I don't need anything formal or lengthy. Many of these parents were brought to my attention with a simple, one-paragraph email that started with, 'You should know about what this parent is doing ..."

Yes, we do tend to get lots of leads about elementary school parents and we welcome those. But middle and high school parents are very much of interest to us as well, for variety's sake.
