Go to "adoptaclassroom.org" and see if your county is participating -- if not it should be and you can get the ball rolling...dianna

That sounds like a good idea. Where can I find more info about that?

We don't give teachers any funds. They fill out a request for support form, that they send through the principal. It is then approved by the board for funding and action and we handle all the dollar interactions on the issues. We had talked at one time about teacher grants, but the amount would be small and we thought better used to purchase things that affect the whole student body. Instead we are making a big push this year for individual classrooms to get adopted through the Adopt a Classroom Program. This is a fabulous program that allows corporations or families to come together and "adopt" a classroom for 500.00. That money is then placed into an account and teachers order through online school supply programs to recieve their items. 100 percent of the money goes towards the items so the teacher is really in good shape. I've gotten both my boys classrooms adopted with very little effort and organization. Just a note home to the classroom parents and if everyone chips in 20 bucks, you can usually meet the requirement. Of course some don't but then some give more than their fair share.

This is funny because my husband spent the weekend at a school board training (sound like fun...huh) and he told me last night that it will soon be coming up that funds from parents for parties, trips, etc. should not be going to teachers directly, that the district is going to be looking at it. i would love to know what other schools do??/

We allocate a set amount ($90 this year) per teacher, and give each teacher a printed envelope for them to collect receipts. Once a teacher has at least $90 in class expense receipts, they turn in the envelope, and we cut them a reimbursement check. We don't review nor discuss the expenditures. We know our teachers spend loads more than $90 of their own money, so we don't debate the receipts. We just file them in accordance with IRS recommendation.

Hi!! I spent 7 yrs. on one PTO & with budget cuts & restructuring my school was closed. I decided to do another PTO. I went to my first meeting & was shocked at how disorganized it was. I've told the Pres., who was tossed into the position with no help last yr., that I'd help her organize it. She said she wanted me to take over because she prefers to be on the "sidelines" learning from me.Checks would be written to teachers & no receipts were ever turned in. Apparently the teachers do not have an acct. set up with the PTO. The funds were given to the school to put in the teachers accts. My previous PTO had teachers acct. set up thru the PTO accts. & no funds given out without receipts & a reimbursement form attached.Nothing seemed to be voted on ever. No treasurer's report was ever given nor mintues. I'm just curious as to how other PTOs handle funds for the teachers. Thank you!!
