I am not sure if anyone is aware that our children have to remove their earrings before gym class. I find this to be unsanitary. My child wears small balls, due to just having them done. She was made to remove them for gym and this caused pain, swelling and infection due to being removed to soon, added with unsanitary conditions. I am not saying the bathrooms are dirty, but we all know about toilets, kids not washing their hands, and so on. I asked the school to please amend this policy, and just asked the days the children have gym they were something small that does not dangle. I was told my child must remove her earrings Or I need to buy plastic inserts to put in her ears, I don't see what the difference is between that and these tiny balls. I have a note from the place we had them done and it says do not remove for 6 weeks and now that she did she has reopened them, so we called where we had them done and we were told again to leave them alone for another 6 weeks. I am not being unreasonable, all I want is the school to take a second look at their rules, this is not fair to ask a child to remove earrings. Think about everything they touch during the day and now they are standing in a bathroom with lots of other girls, germs, removing them. The principle also stated that this is why we asked that children do not have their ears pierced. I take this as our children at Christmas and birthdays can not have this done, due to the rules that make no sence to me. We can not let this happen at our local schools, they can not tell us when to pierce our children ears. I rememeber being in school in the 70's-80's and this was not an issue. Now we are in 05 and now this is an issue in our school. I have checked other schools and this is not a policy, they just ask the children remember to wear something that does not dangle.
Its one thing if the child does not listen on the day they have gym and has been told that only something that does not dangle is acceptable. Then that child should have to remove, but if we as parents are sending our children with something that is small, I don't understand how the school can make the child remove them. Esp sence we had just had them done.
I have sent letters, I have also asked to be involved in the PTA, or even voice my opinion.
When I pick up my child I see kids with all kinds of things written on their shirts, short skirts, but these kids continue, instead they go after a tiny ball my child wears.
