Good question. I just posted the same exact one over in the fundraising part. My silent auction wasn't until early March 2006. However, with the unfortunate impending doom of Hurricane Rita combined with the already documented devastation of Hurricane Katrina, there's no way I'm going to get anything substantial to use for an auction. I have decided I'll just have to postpone my auction until Spring 2007. I am substituting another fundraiser, Art to Remember, in its place.
We began sending letter months ago for our auction in November but in the last week have gotten a lot of "no's" because they have sent items to other auctions that benefit the victims of Katrina. I am fine with that.....they need the money more than our district does.
It will probably mean more work for you because you will have to send out more letters to get the same amount of stuff back. Good luck with your event.
I haven't sent out letters yet to corporations and celebrities for our Nov silent auction, and I'm curious as to what you guys think the response will be because of the hurricane. We were supposed to get a totebag full of books from Oprah's magazine, but instead we got two tote bags and no books because the books were sent to the hurricane victims!
