PTO President Does not Return Calls

19 years 2 months ago #73462 by ScottMom#1
You should refer to your bylaws about removing an officer. I believe it is usually most difficult to replace a president. Our bylaws suggest that a vote be presented and voted on as any other issue. But if the vote does not pass, what kind of relationship are you going to be able to have with this person.
As far as term length, we have one year terms but if you can get voted back in and you can stay as long as you have children at the school. Keep in mind, someone may be doing a good job but someone could be out there that could bring new ideas and life into an already good group. There is always room for improvement or evolution in this type of situation.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

I'm a PTO officer that has been asked if or how a another officer can be impeached. We have already had our elections at the end of school last year and at that time everything was okay well except she didn't like the principal or the supermentent but the officer did not have a problem with them. Since I'm a newly elected officer I see alot of want people have said about her attitude to certain people . I love this new position I Have fun getting to know new parents that child goes to school with. could someone tell me if is possible to impeach them by secret ballot? AND maybe some new bylaw we have a meeting this week and if there is a position that you can hold stating that person could hold as long as he/she wants if doing a great job and gets along with everyone great

My pres sounds a lot like Serindipity's--a martyr. She rarely returns my calls and emails,so what I have started doing is talking to the former pres because she is a good friend of mine and ran things in a very organized manner. I think this is starting to irritate the present pres but at least I am getting the guidance I need--and maybe if she gets irritated enough, she will figure out that she can put a stop to it by just answering my emails!!

I feel for you; I really do. It's hard enough to volunteer in the first place, but to be left without guidance after that is the worst. But here's to you for volunteering and now for hanging in there... because I know you will! Knowing this person is hard to pin down, get your list ready. Figure out what you absolutely need information-wise to do your job as treasurer. Then get a hold of her any way you can: e-mail, write her a letter, even corner her one afternoon while picking up the kids. Where ever you can find her, get her and question her! Also think about who else might have the answers you need; are there other parent volunteers, such as a past treasurer? In the end, you may just have to "re-invent the wheel" a little bit. Start a system for keeping track of funds that works for you. As I said before, it's diffcult to volunteer without the proper guidance & support, but you may be more capable than you think. And who knows, you have a 1st grader now, but maybe by the time you have a 3rd grader you'll be showing others how it's done!

Hi! First off is it possible she is away on vacation? or perhaps has had a family emergency?
You need to rule those things out to be certain she is ignoring you. With the nominations being next week she should definitely be surfacing soon.

I can tell you however, that we use to have a President who cried and moaned about how she needed to do everything herself and how no one would help her. The reality was that everyone tried to help out and was constantly shunned by her. This was her game plan and that was exactly how she wanted it. She wanted to do everything herself and then play the martyr that no one would help her. I do not know your president, but if she is anything like the one we had it's going to be a long year!

My PTO President does not return my phone calls, but yet she wants me to be her treasurer. I have called her three times in the last week, and have not had a returned call. I am wondering if maybe I have bothering her to much, but won't the treasurer be calling her a few times as well. I am calling for information about other PTO matters. There is nobody else who has even volunteered to be treasurer, but I am not so sure I want the position anymore either. What should I do? We do not have our new positions nominated until next week. I am a 1st grade parent, who did join the PTO last year and want's to do more. This President say's she want's help and complains that that she does too much, but when a few of us try to call her and give her help, and ask's questions, she clams up.
