Last year we held a coin drive and raised a couple thousand dollars in just a few days for the Tsunami victims. It was really heartwarming watching kids come in and dumping their entire piggy banks as many of them did. I don't know how to find a particular school or parent group to help, but you can go here www.networkforgood.org
to find honorable charities to send money to for hurricane relief.
If you get any information can you please share it. We are thinking the same thing and trying to deceide what would be best to do - send money to the Red Cross or do a drive (school supplies or books?) and send the stuff.

Our school would like to help the victims of huricane Katrina, in particular another school that might have been impacted by the storm. Does anyone know of another PTO we can reach out to? How can I find an elementary school that might need help?
