I've mentioned before how our PTO does a big BBQ for the teachers, well last week the PTO and school hosted a Welcome back to school for ALL the staff and teachers. I ran out of food and received praises for a great job and everyone had a great time....but me. About an hour before we started the rented grill was delivered tothe school and the Building Mgr (Bob) and I were getting it set-up and checking it out. I was helping Bob as he was latching the main door (45 lb steel door) to the top so we could light the fire, the door slipped and closed on my right hand. If you look at your hand, inbetween your knuckle and your finger knuckles and then on the underside my finger tips were badly brused. NO BONES were broken and the grill wasn't lit (thank GOd!) but I am still stiff and very sore and (as told by the doctor) will be for a few weeks.
Here is where I am stuck. I went to the office to fill-out a report on Monday (could'nt hold a pen Friday let alone write!) and was told since I'm not an empolyee there was nothing they could do. I mentioned the school's liablity insurance and how I should fill out something for documentaion--- no, your fine. Something was mentioned about submitted my bill for the co-pay to the PTO and get my money back that way.
I have a meeting tommorrow morning with the Business Manager. I'm stuck. I was hurt on school property, I did go to my own doctor, but when did this become a non-issue? It's not the money (the Doctor was paid by my insurance) it's not the fact that I was hurt but when did I lose my status as a valued parent?
Okay...haven't typed in awhile...need to put the heat pad back on!
It's so easy to help others fight the fight but I need some help here!
Thanks everyone!!!
