It's not really a program but an actual committee with the state, that's the way I understand it.

We have so many allergies that juice is needed! Of course granted we don't have an issue there too!
I can't wait to see the vender machines go away too! Besides a $1.25 for cheese a crackers! I'll walk a 1/2 block to the corner store for 75 cent package! I'm really excited about this so I will keep in touch!

A few years ago our school had a NEAT committee which stood for Nutrition, Excercise, Anti-Tobacco. the hwole purpose of the group was to help make our school lunches healthier and to bring awareness to parents. We actually ended up trying to go head to head with the district, long story short is alot of the Federal food that our school gets is not healthy at all, but if you don't use it you lose very important funds. It is also amazing how low the federal standards for school lunches are...you should check it out. It's scary! After three years the nurse that was running it got tired of fighting and disolved the group. It got interesting ...we found out how much is out of our school's control. During this time we did monthly healthy snack to all students, it was amazing how many didnt even know what was
healthy. The only soda machine in our school is in the staff lounge, C brooks who would actually want their child to buy a soda for lunch??? Good luck and let us know how things work out!

I started school in 1980, we never had sodas offered to us at lunch. In middle school and had school we had machines we could use after lunch (about an hour after lunch). Probably my Sr. year they started bringing in a little juice. Now at the 5/6 on up they offer several juice choices. They also offer other non carbonated drinks for a little extra at the 5/6 on up. Our elementary teacher wanted a milk machine since that school doesn't have drink machine for the kids. She said she would have the first milk machine in our area for elementary.

The soda machines are a big issue. I had a parent to call me yesterday because they are taking out the caffinated drinks. I understood they were taking out the machines all together. She is mad because she wants her child to by a "coke." Can't please everyone!

I am glad you are getting juice.

I like the idea of schools getting juice instead of MIlk all the time. My kids don't drink milk that much for being lactose but the school doesn't offer juice unless it is for breakfast. So my 2 have to take their own drink.

Has anyone heard of this? I guess there is one here in Colorado and our new kitchen manager is excited about joining. One of this big draws is how they encourage schools to remove soda from their menu and cafeteria! As a reward of sorts (and forgive me if I miss quote her) they reinburse the school for their free lunch program! I would rather see juice anyway!

I spent an hour with her today (also an old friend coming back to the school) and my head is spinning with her ideas! I am SO excited to have a friend back AND our lunch program the way a really good one should be!

More when it's not so late! Garage sale for used uniforms tomorrow 7AM!!! need sleep.........
