We had our Back to School Bash last night. This is sponsered by our FRC,YSC, and Health Dept. I was afraid that parent and student numbers would be down because of the timing (4th of July week, alot out of town). The attendance seemed to be pretty good BUT their were not near as many booths as their had been in the past. Most people that set up are community orginizations and not business. This is not a money maker but a chance for people (especially new comers) to see what services are offered in the county and to get info from the schools for the upcoming year. It was a little disheartening to me as I am about to embark on this new adventure and our school needs so much support from everyone as it is just starting out.
I was already getting discouraged after running around yesterday with a chicken with it's head cut off, spending hours in front of the computer this week only to realize that I may just be wasting my time. Perhaps it's the heat or the stupid summer cold I have. I don't want to feel that way. One of our biggest concerns this year is to gain parental involvement. Not just their name on the membership book. My philosphy is usually "If they don't want to be involved it is not because we have not tried." I figured if I posted this I could get a little pepping up from you guys before school starts in about 3 weeks.
By the way my secretary had a great idea. She suggested that we post the members names on our bulletin board so that it may encourage others to want to join in the fun.
Does anyone else do that? We are a very small school. The avg. parents attending meetings were about 6 last year, about 3 teachers, and maybe a few more to help out with things.
