These are documented estimates that can be used in pursuing grants, counting as in-kind donations, PR material and such. It's not necessarily the amount you would hire someone to do the job for, it's the perceived value of that donated work.

The organization also has the figures broken down by state, but I think the date of that research was 2002.

Since we are poverty level and they way the state is divided up it is probably not that much here. But it sure does sound good!

For 2004, it's up to $17.55 per hour

The source is Independent Sector , an organizations "committed to strengthening, empowering, and partnering with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations in their work on behalf of the public good."

Their 2004 report was released in March. Their site has some other good statistics and references as well.

I remember it being $17.19 and several of us nearly shouted it out when our principal recently announced at an assembly that it was $15.00/hour. How dare he undervalue our service!

JHB posted that, I am pretty sure. I was so excited about finding that out I guess that is why I remember. I am thinking it was apporximately $17.50. I printed out that info and the pres posted it on our bulletin board along with the hours we had logged for that month.
