You people claim to be experienced, but yet no one brought up the importance of "chocolate"? ;)

Programs and bylaws are well and good, but let's maintain some priorities. The comfort food/drink of your choice - often chocolate - will definitely help you get thru the tough times!

...And while you are munching, spending time in the Forum.

I have to disagree with mykidsmom on one part. It's ok to be desperate. LOL! Been there done that.

Hang in there, this site is very valuable. Make friends with the new and old board fast. Many of them have probably been in your shoes.

Hi Charlotte! Congrats on your new position. I too am a "new" president and am a bit scared. In fact our ENTIRE board is new and going into this blindly. I found this site this morning and have been glued to it now for 7 hours. A lot of positive energy here...... which will be nice to come to when the going gets tough! Good luck in the months ahead and I look forward to seeing your posts on how things are going!

I will only add what was our policy for this year. It is better to have fewer programs and activities that are run correctly and smoothly, then to have lots of half-baked things run amok. Take the time to find out from your membership what is important to them. Is it literacy, family fun events, staff appreciation? Then plan around those. And don't be afraid to make phone calls to ask for help. You will hear time and again, "Oh I didn't know you needed help, you should have called me." Be prepared to also hear every excuse under the sun, but you will get some positive responses and possibly some of your finest volunteers. Good luck and congrats!! :D
