Good grief, guys. Maybe, it's a southern thing, but when our buses pull on the highway, the cars stop and let them go. Cars stop in both directions and let them out. Ten buses. How long are we talking? Our kids lives are worth a few seconds.

Two years ago, the school arranged with the city police for them to help due to increased truck traffic on the highway. They usually stop the traffic now, but if they aren't able to be there, the parents stop.

believe it or not this week we had a bus driver bite a student for not moving! Yes that is correct, needless to say the bus company(independent from our district) suspended the driver! Wow...

This is going on at a school here too. The busses do this "stopping traffic" thing ALL the time. A few days ago, someone stopped to let them go (illegal on that driver's part) and 4 cars in back of the first one all crashed into one another. Bam, Bam, Bam, Boom!

When I am at the school when the buses are leaving, I am one of the few that happily lets the buses go. :cool: If possible, they all get out of the school driveway at the same time.
It's so hard for them to get out with all the traffic around the school. :eek: My kids normally take the bus and I'd like them home ASAP.
It takes 3 minutes out of my schedule to let that happen.
The buses zoom thru because there are so few people are willing to let them out. People like you work hard at NOT letting them out. Maybe you thing they should they be forced to wait until the entire parking lot of minivans empties before they can get the kids home?
I'm not surprised that the police don't direct traffic to let them out. :confused:

First off I drive a school bus so can look at this situation from a drivers point of view.
You say this is a busy road and accuse the drivers of being "bull headed" :eek:
These drivers are well trained professionals that are trying do thier jobs with apparently very little support or help from the school or parents. Instead of getting upset with them, why do you not get together and have someone stop traffic for them so they can safely pull out on to the street? this would take what, less than 5 min and then no one would have to risk anything (except maybe those who are stopping the traffic)
Bus drivers do what they do because they love this kind of work (certainly not for the pay!). Support from others using the road when they are there (usually only twice a day) would go a long way to smoothing out this situation.
The school I drive my bus to always has cars in the bus loading zones and many parents do not slow down or give the buses the room they need to safely get in and out of these areas.

Our school a driveway in the front and the other three sides have loading zones. One of the loading zones is used specificly for buses. I have enough trouble with the other parents, I can't imagine having to deal with the buses too.
