I think it was really easy putting it together ourselves. We had a copy of supplies needed for each grade.(We are K - 6) Counted how many kids in each grade that ordered, then made a list of how many of each supply we needed. The Treasurer and I went to Wal-Mart and purchased most of it. We shopped for the items in late August so they were out of weird things like pink erasers and rulers so we got those at Target. Then the next day we set each item in a plastic tub and we walked around the table putting the items needed in a bag, labeled it and we were finished in 1 1/2 hours.
I called our Treasurer a few minutes ago and she said the prices named above were correct. Also that the loose leaf notebook paper was 50 cents, markers were 97 cents, colored pencils 97 cents, Three ring binders were $1.57 for the 1", Pencils we got the pack of 100 for $5.97, we bought the cheap kleenex for 99 cents, pocket folders were 10 cents, pocket folders with brads were 50 cents, box of 12 pens were 99 cents.
We charged $22.00 per kit reguardless of what grade they were in.
We had checked around with the differant school supply fundraising companys to see what they charge for the kits and we took the average of what they would have cost and figured it that way. We ended up getting a lot better deal on supplies than we had anticipated.
We were originally just doing this as more of a service for busy parents and try to make $5.00 per kit but since we got a great deal on supplies we made a lot more. We are doing it again this year as a fundraiser.
I hope this helps you!
This is our first year doing the school kits and we're going with School Tool Box. Their prices were really good and their service so far has been wonderful. They sent us 5 posters, a sample kit, 1 set (enough for the entire school) of informative flyers, 1 set (enough for the K-4 grades) of the the customized order forms. Our orders have to be in by the end of this month for next school year. I'll let you know how many end up being ordered.
I'm not certain of the costs but Office Depot does a terrific school supply kit. They're put together per your specifications and then boxed.
We got samples of them at the PTA convention a few years ago and I really liked the concept.
Last year was the first year we did School Supply Kits. We did not go through a fundraising company. We sent out flyers, parents ordered, we bought most of the supplies at Wal-Mart. Spiral Notebooks were 8 cents each, scissors were 50 cents, crayons 33 cents, etc...What Wal-Mart did not have we got at Target. Our Board got together 10 days before school started and put together 150 kits in 1 1/2 hrs. Then parents picked up their children's supplies 1 week before school started from 6 to 8pm. We had a 70% profit on most bags. It was so simple and worth doing ourselves for the higher profit.
