Top Ten Reasons to Volunteer - Teachers?

19 years 11 months ago #72154 by kmamom

A golden opportunity to clear your wallet or purse of those filthy germ laden $10 or $20 bills.

ccmom--I laughed so hard at that one!

Tell me, I may forget; show me, then I may remember; but involve me, and I'll understand."
- A Chinese proverb

Again, ccmom, you're a keeper! I'm stealing these!

Lisa--Yes, it does fly in the face of reason--but believe me, there are LOADS of teachers who don't like to help (AND PRINCIPALS), and in fact are quite resentful when asked to. Contract schmontract--if our teachers were doing so much, and changing and updating their lesseon plans and curriculums on a yearly basis or staying after on a regular basis to work or our test scores were stellar or even if our school was a place the kids LIKED going to and a place we could take pride in, then yes I'd be willing to cut some slack. But when I hear our teachers say they do so much already... it makes me steam!

I just find it interesting that those who are so unwilling to not help and the loudest to say they shouldn't have to are the ones who do the least, period.

OK... thanks to everyone for their input. Here's what we came up with...

Top Ten Reasons for Faculty and Staff to Volunteer for the Winter Carnival

10. You won't have to grade anyone's work.

9. Five days a week with these angels just isn't enough.

8. You know where all your neighboring teachers' supplies are stored.

7. You want to be able to guard your supplies.

6. Uses less energy than planning to volunteer and feeling guilty when you don't

5. Our Winter Carnival has 1/2 the fat and fewer carbs than other festivals.

4. Get out of the house awhile, or do you like those pesky telemarketers?

3. Because we need you to put the "T" in PTO…

2. See our school transformed into Chuck E. Cheese's.

Thats also a great idea. If you decide to do the coupon idea, I have mine on file.

Lisa thanks for that idea. I think some teachers are reluctant because it is not in their contract. I can understand that. They help out so much already. However, I believe that if we can get them there that the kids will come. I will approach my committee with your idea. The other thought is perhaps we could raffle off a basket of appreciated goodies. To get a raffle ticket, you need to volunteer. 1hour per ticket.
