Reading incentive ideas

20 years 1 month ago #71841 by mum24kids
I'm wondering if anyone has any good theme ideas for a reading incentive program they could share.

Reading is a big hot button for our principal, and she likes to go all out on an incentive program in late winter/early spring. Last year, we did "Reading is Magical." Kids kept a log of how many pages they read, and a school wide goal of 500,000 pages was set. If it was met (and it was), the kids were promised a special day where we had various booths set up in the gym for them to visit (where they could learn simple magic tricks, optical illusions, etc.), and there was an assembly with a magician. The magician's show was entitled "Books--the Magic is Real" (see here: www.romanomagic.com/schools.html), and the highlight of the show was when he cut off the principal's head.

Anyway, it was a huge success. Now we're kind of at a loss as to what to do this year. The principal won't do a dunk tank or get pie thrown in her face, but other than that she's up for most anything. She's already learned to hula, held a snake, and kissed a pig. Anyone have anything that's worked for them? THANKS!!
