How much should PTO help w/other school fundraisers?

20 years 2 months ago #71781 by Bertha
At the beginning of every year our principal gives me "a list of activities". It's a list by month of what events are planned for the enitre school year. It has both PTA sponsored events and in-school events. I make sure that our newsletter chair gets a copy and we put ALL events in our newsletter. Whether it be PTA/PTO or in-school, aren't we all there to help for the good of the entire school?

In our elementary school, the PTO provides volunteers for school activities and events, including the school-owned fundraisers.

This is my third year involved with PTO and my first as Pres. I have always complained, as a parent, that we never know when sporting events are or when a grade level is holding a fundraiser or who is collecting aluminum cans and printer cartridges. Is "getting the word out" something other PTO's do? I don't want PTO to help with the fundraisers, etc. but I thought PTO is there to support the teachers and help when we can. I wanted to include information on events and fundraisers in a newsletter, or make up and distribute flyers for the teachers, but other PTO officers (specifically our past president) doesn't think we should use our time promoting things that the teachers should be doing themselves. What do other PTO's do?

Thanks,

Christine Childs
