Our school is a school of choice. This means that you can petition to go to the school even if you live in another district. LOTS of parents (including me) have done that. My estimate is that approximately 30% of students live out of district.

We have gotten such a good reputation that we have just exploded while school districts around us are losing students. However, we are running out of room. Our school board has voted to put a mileage increase on the November ballet for a new junior high, but I have heard grumblings from folks (mainly those without children) that they feel it is not fair to increase their taxes while out of district families don’t have to pay the mileage increase.

I want to set-up a building fund that allows out of district parents to pledge and donate to the fund. I estimated on a $150,000 property, taxes would increase $150. I would gladly pay that and I know that a lot of other parents would as well. I would hope this would show good faith to the district voters.

Any ideas how I would go about this?
