Open House

We have an ice cream social the day before school to meet the teachers. It is very well attended probably because that is when the class lists are posted.

We also have what we call a curriculum night two weeks later to get more information about what to expect accademically in the next year. That is fairly well attended.

We are a K-4, approx. 530 students.

We have a kindergarten orientation a few days before school starts, 95% participation. Kindergarten parents are so enthusiastic!

Individual grades have a meet and greet the day before or two to meet the teachers, drop school supplies. 75%

Our open house is two weeks into the year. We are required by law to have one. Because of our size (we have no one place to put everyone), you just go to your child’s room. The PTO usually has tables by the door to catch everyone for information and membership sign-ups. 80-85%

I miss the meetings all together, but we have grown so much; we just don’t have anyplace big enough.

We have about 450 students. I don't have exact numbers, but I'd estimate upwards of 75% attend these events. Kindergarten Roundup is much higher.

We are a public school of about 500 students,
Pre-K through 5. Our Open House is held 3 weeks after school starts, although there was a Kinder Orientation about a week before school started.
Open House starts at 5:30 with a pizza dinner and Sweet Shop, followed by a brief PTO meeting and a talk from the principal. PTO has tables set up for Membership, and to promote/explain Box Tops for Education and the Penny Collection. We also have our "Bulldog Booth", which sells
t-shirts and other spirit stuff. Parents then go visit the teachers in their classrooms. :D
We get a great turn-out since we offer dinner at a good price; however, I'm not sure of the actual number. I do know that last year, we ordered 80 pizzas and sold out.

We are a K-5, 700+ student boy school. We have K-orientation the week before school starts. 1st grade open house is the second day of school, 2nd & 3rd grade open house is two days later on a Thursday evening and 4th & 5th Grade open house is the following Thursday evening. It is really stretched out but with such a large student body that is the way it has to be done. We have a very good turn out for this event, usually quite crowded. The evening starts off in the Cafeteria with the Principal giving a slide presentation about the upcoming school year then the parents go to their childs classroom and the teacher fills them in on what they plan to do throughout the year. As far as the PTO is concerned, we set up a booth in the lobby to hand out PTO pamphlets, sell spirit wear tee-shirts and this year we will have our major fundraiser well advertised with free samples. We really try to recruite members on these nights and display a bulletin board about what all the PTO truely does for the school. It's just not a money making machine, we spend the money very quickly at the end of the year. I would like to see what other PTO's do for their open houses. All ideas are welcome
