Our middle school does a bingo night for the kids. They get the prizes donated or they get monetery donations for which to buy age appropriate games and prizes for the kids to win.
I feellike a broken record but we have skate parties that (well THursday we had 220 kids present) are popular.
The school has a carnival but it's hard, as a K-12 the MS and HS that come are with sibblings and are for the most part having fun but you know...
I LOVE the cheesey movie idea! WHat a blast that would be to show a well loved 80's movie that they would just die over! (My 13 yr old is hooked on Ferris Bueller and Breakfast Club).
Do they have a student council? Ask for a few minutes during a meeting and work with the sponsors and the kids on an event! Honestly, it came to me I don't know what my daughter wants to do unless I ask her. What about a short survey they can do in homeroom, turn it in, and the council and PTO can work together to put something awesome for the kids..... okay.. excuse me I need to take my own advise
I would like to see more responses to this!!
My neighbor who is on 2 PTO boards elem & middle, is treasurer at middle school. They lost their fundraising chair (because she didn't like the pres. i like her but, I don't have kids there!)
We thought about a Cheesy Movie night.
To raise money fast they could have a car wash @ Wal-mart. Did you they will match your earnings up to $1000 if fundraiser held on their property!
Kee p the ideas coming!!!
Have you tried a carnival? Games like the basketball toss and darts seem to go over well for teens. You could do it just for fun.
Also, I don't know how many places have this available but our local dollar theater will rent out the whole space and play the movie of your choice saturday mornings before they open. That might be a fun activity or fundraiser.
In the spring before school gets out you could have the local Civil Air Patrol, scouts or search and rescue team teach safety skills for boating and outdoor rec.
Ok, on the suggestion of another poster, I am going to try to get ideas for a middle school.
What is a successful Family Night for families of middle schoolers? We tried a movie night, and, well, let's say, it was a bust. The officers' and administrators' kids did well on the drawings for prizes, that was a perk.
This was the first year ever for our PTO and we are used to elementary programs.
