New PTO-New School

Although not a Charter School, we have just finished our first year of the PTO at a Middle School (6th-8th).
We learned alot as we went. Slowly getting all our officers. Only one officer had any PTO experience (and it wasn't me!!). She suggested the subscription to PTO Today.

Free ideas? We did decide this year not to charge membership. Last year we had just over 10% join. That limited our go-to list. This year everyone who has a child at the school is a member, teachers and staff are also members. While you cannot do membership drives all year long, we intend on having a volunteer form that allows everyone to state things they like to do and continually pass it out all year long. Requesting their email is helpful to pass along requests and minutes to the meetings.

Good luck. It is sometimes rocky, but I love it!

Hi there! I have been nominated to organize a PTO for our new charter school due to open August, 2004. I am finding that this is a much bigger job than originally thought. Any suggestions that might make this easier (I work full time). We have our first Kid Connection June 4 and thats when I will start my recruiting. We have no money right now so any free ideas would be great!
