Your in luck we just did this last year! where to start well we started off the year by selling our spiritwear as usual but offering special 50th tee shirts as well(we don't make money on these) then we hosted a special games carnival and picnic on the school grounds, next we wrote a history of the school found the person who the school was named for family and rededicated the school at a ceremony with the music teacher having a performance and the town officals cutting a ribbon. next we hosted a monthly dress up day per era(etc 50's) and each grade got to make up the front display case with items from that era (parents sent in lots) then we hosted a 50's sock hop on our regular pizza night to kick off the dress up thing. Everything we ran was charged just to break even not make a profit. We also had a 50th Ann. Dinner dance for the adults at a local catering hall! Great Time to Dress up and get out without the kids. Last thing we did and PTO paid for this one was a time capsule the classes were all given assignments (ie, write what kids today are like and what you think kids will be like in 50 years when this is opened, Popular tv shows, current grocery prices etc) We had a big in school assembly and each class presented their items and then we displayed them on long tables for all to look at. then town officals also put town info and letters and brought them that day. Good news coverage. Good Luck!! And enjoy we did put together a special committee to run all this stuff too.
Looking for ideas from the PTC standpoint on how to celebrate 50 years for the Elementary School. Has anyone had any type of celebration? What have they done? Does anyone have any ideas on how to celebrate it all year long?
