Talent Shows are in big demand with our students. We have 4 categories; Dance, Musical Instrument, Singing, and Skits. We do not make it a contest. We do require a rehearsal on the skits. We have had plastic guns, scary masks, etc., so we must see it before the show. All you do is have them make changes, we don't tell them they cannot perform. We just ask for the title of the song (most we know),the type of dance they will be performing, and what costume they might be wearing. A student can only participate in one category and limit their time to 3 mins. This still takes 2-3 hours. We are a school of 525 elementary kids. You can even have your SCA sell drinks. Hope this helps !
Our K-5 school has a talent show put on by the 5th graders. The 4th graders get to watch the dress rehearsal during the day and that night the 5th graders put it on for the parents. All kids can put on a act, either in groups or individually.
Yes, it is impossible to make everyone happy! Please keep that in mind while your on the verge of ulcers. You have teachers helping you! WoW last year there were three of us, totally clueless but we pulled it off and it was a success. Well worth it in the end.
I told them if they had tryouts I didn't want to be a part of it. I know all the kids, we have a small school and I couldn't bare to turn one down. We had 30 participants. We did make sure all the material was appropriate and they had to have a split track CD or sing accapello if they were singing.
One suggestion I have is break it down. If you have enough time say group one will be from 5:00 -7:00 and group two can go from 7:15-9:00 or have it on two different nights. Our categories were very tideous to me. It worked out great but for some reason I couldn't comprehend. I know those other mom's were ready to strangle me. I would have to check my notes to see exactly how that works and get back to you.
We are running our first talent show in years at our elementary school. We are in desperate need of guidelines. Does anyone out there have any that worked well for them? We are already having issues with a few parents saying we can't hold try outs, that all the children should be included. This would make for one long talent show! We are trying to find something that will help us and the teachers that are running it for us to keep everyone as happy as possible....not that it is possible to keep everyone happy. Any help would be appreciated.
