We're only involved by telling parents at functions or by PTO notes / e-mails sent home. We especially put pressure on parents at Christmas and end of school, but the reminders are always there.

Our PTO purchased a Deck Box to put all the lost and found in and the office does the announcements for items with names. We put out the lost and found in the front lobby on a table for all to see at both sets of conferences and what is left is sent off to charity. we also clean out at the end of the school year!

The PTO isn't involved. But as far as the school, there's a heavy duty metal shelf with a clothes rod bolted to one wall in the cafeteria. All lost and found (mostly coats) are hung there or placed on the shelves.

I don't know how much effort the school goes to about matching labeled clothes with kids. (Frankly doesn't seem like much beyond announcements.) Mostly they make a lot of announcements and have certain deadlines where everything on the Lost and Found rack will be boxed up and taken to Good Will.

The only extent to which we get involved is that we haul the stuff out of its regular keeping place at every event where we think there will be a lot of families (teacher conference days, book fair days, bingo night, etc.). That makes it easy for the parents to go through the stuff.

The school sends home a notice when they are about to dispose of it. I think it's only 2 or 3 times a year--the end of the school year is one time, and then maybe a week or so after one of the above noted major events. Seems to me that there is about a week or two of advance notice. Our L&F is also in a pretty accessible area; parents can come in and search through it pretty much whenever they want to.

How do ya'all handle your lost and found, if your group helps with this issue.

We are trying to make sure coats etc with names on them to return to the kids and that is a task in it's self but how much notice do you give to parents when the donation truck is coming. I want to talk to the school and set up dates for the rest of the school year (2004) so parents know when lost and found will be donated.

Am I crazy or just tried of being asked if I have seen a small navy blue coat, EVERYONE wears navy blue it's the dress code! [img]smile.gif[/img]
