Jon--No Problem! Can you tell I'm just a LITTLE touchy on the subject? We met with our principal today (she's new, and thank God she's a very nice person who refuses to get drawn much into the politics further than she has to!), mainly to make sure we were all on the same page. Apparently the PTA president accidentally(?) got forwarded my PTO Network Invoice by the secretarial staff at the front office. All these lovely PTA board members who were SO pleased we were taking on the playground suddenly had a change of heart and went whinging to the principal, spreading all sorts of misinformation (our favorite being that they were worried the "exclusive" nature of our association would be harmful to the school! Seeing as we started our now-little-soon-to-be-large group because THEIR exclusive nature was alienating most of the parent population we felt that was a good one). They generally tried to undermine us, but we're aware of the situation and trying not to fan the flames at all. NOT easy, believe me. We're supposed to meet with the superintendent on Weds, but seeing as we'll most likely be having a snow-day, it looks as though we'll be putting it off.

Sorry for the confusion, but I was referring to the "the PTA has a stranglehold on volunteering" statement. Not meaning that she needed to post elsewhere, but rather that maybe dealing with the clique issue was addressed in the other forum. Our group dealt with a strong clique a few years back. Some of the parents moved on as their kids graduated, but those left behind have found that the clique has lost its power.

Seriously I have the classic case of the Office Manager that is new actually following the office procedures book and well, who knew! I've been at the school for five years and had no idea of all the paperwork that I should have been doing all this time! Anyway, the original question was for the gals to accept donations for the PTOs toy drive if parents missed us during the AM/PM drop offs. The OM's boss said NO yadda yadda they ended up holding five gifts,period. The OM realized later the work we were doing and felt bad.
Remember when you would play a game with a cousin or sibling and the rules would just change mid game? Well the rules keep changing or rather (I've been told) are actually being enforced! I just need to learn the rules....again! And I've read somewhere to bake brownies but I have to have the activity approved 30 days in advance (wish I was kidding).
Don't worry, there are no amount of paper cuts to get me down! HA! ...as long as can come here!OUCH! hhhheeeeehhhe
mykidsmom--Thanks for the welcome! In retrospect I think Jon was trying to be helpful--I guess I'm just a LITTLE too sensitive soemtimes. Oh well--we c'est la vie!

Jon--Yes, I've read the posts, but I'm not sure what you're getting at-am I missing something(believe me, it wouldn't be the first time if I was!)? In our school it's less a "PTA" vs "PTO" issue as it is a clique issue. Some of our more staunch Republican/right-wing parents are starting to make noise though--I'm curious to see what will happen.
