Couldn't resist here.....wouldn't this be a good thing ALL YEAR long???? Suggest a great new family movie in your newsletter or let everyone know when the circus is coming or family night at a skate rink etc.
This really should be something for just more than one week.
I think I figured out what's going on with this. National has now decided to promote the importance of after-school programs during October 6-10. There's now a big section on the National PTA website about this ("Doors Open After School Week")--it just appeared in the last couple of days. So, I don't think they're doing Take Charge of Your TV this year; wouldn't make sense for them to do two things so close together.
I have never heard of this in the fall. Only the TV turnoff in the spring. We are trying to do some family oriented activities during the spring one this year. THings to help keep the kids busy during that week. Like a family game night (game boards in the cafe) or family reading night. I wish you luck with this. It makes sense to do two per year, I wonder why there isn't more public awarenessabout it in the fall?
Looks like October 12-18, at least according to the NC PTA. Seems strange that the National PTA site hasn't updated, unless maybe they're not promoting this year?
Does anyone know the dates in October for this year's Take Charge of Your TV Week (different than the spring TV Turnoff Week)? I just checked the Nat'l PTA and Nat'l Cable & Telecommunications Association web sites -- and saw only the 2002 dates. Equally or more important, are any of you doing anything in conjunction with that week? If so, details please! (Around that time, we have our annual Book Fair & Spaghetti Supper on 10/17 and all of the public schools in our county are participating in "Students Make a Difference Day" in conjunction with Nat'l Make a Difference Day on 10/25). Thanks!
