Thank you for your help Tim ! I will take the NPN info to our PTO Board and see what I can do. I have spent over 30 hours in the last few weeks just reading info on PTOtoday. This site is awesome !! I am so driven to get our PTO organized and do great things for our kids and teachers now that I have found this support !
Thanks again !
Happy and Grateful,
Judi
I agree that you "should" be getting your ducks in a row.
However, I've never heard of a PTO operating as an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation). It's much more common for a PTO to incorporate and then file for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status with the IRS.
As an FYI, one of the key benefits of joining our National PTO Network (www.ptotoday.com/npn
) is an Expert Guide called "PTO Start-Up" that walks you through the incorporating and 501(c)(3) processes step-by-step.
We are in Virginia and I am being told (by a few fellow school parents) that we are to be (or should be) an LLC and I should be filing tax papers as well ! This is my first year as Treasurer and it seems this is a new deal for us this year and I'm the lucky one to handle it !! How do I find out IF we must be LLC and IF we must file taxes ???
Please help me !!
Frustrated and would be very grateful for help !
