When is a fundraiser a "fundraiser", and when is it an event or program that happens to make money? Almost everything our group does makes a some money, be it $50 or $5000, and I'm always confused as to where and why the line is drawn. Is it intent? Is it dollar threshhold? We recently sold items for one of our annual events at a slightly higher cost than in the past based on initial cost estimates. After the items were sold, and the invoice came, it turned out that the original cost estimates were a bit higher than actual, so we ended up making a unintended profit on what was only supposed to cover costs. Do we have an obligation at this point to use the funds from this particular event separately from the rest of the budget, or can they be added to the overall monies to be spent as needed and voted on by the members of the organization? I'd appreciate any insight anyone has on this. Thanks.
