For two consecutive years our Elementary school recieved an art grant. The art teacher did an outline and the children got to paint it during art class using Q-tips. I believe it is called pointillism (?). They came out really neat and the kids are SO proud of them. They walk up and say, "Mommy, >>>I<<< painted this part right here. And they know exactly where they painted! The two we have are from a book that we had the author come and speak to the kids about. It was a REALLY great experience for the kids.
Over the summer we got our art teacher to paint a mural in the lunchroom and it turned out great!! We (PTO) asked her to use our mascot, a gator, and the kids love it. The white walls just had to have some color added!! Asking the art students from your local highschool is a great idea. We thought of them but thought the project might be to big but they do provide us with great looking banners to announce fundraisers and such things. Good luck!
Just a thought-you may want to contact a high school art club or a school of the Performing Arts there maybe a class that is looking for a project to do. This could help you and help them as well. Maybe you could do a mural on Safety.
Like stops signs, looking both ways before you cross. Never speak to strangers using primary colors. Using seat belts.
Depending on the wall size.
Last year the art teacher for our school did a patchwork flag on one of the bigger walls in our new building. She wasn't able to paint on the wall (fresh paint and other issues) but used a neat clothes line to suspend the pictures. The wall turned out really neat. This teacher wasn't asked back but our new art teacher is doing the school logo on the wall and the mascot on another. Can't wait to see what she has done!
--the PTO really 'pushed' the Principal to liven up the white walls of the new school but she wanted to wait until she could find someone with vision and artstic creativity (something the other teacher really lacked). The new teacher has been worth the wait! Our school is now just amazing! Most of what she has done was using a overhead projector and tracing the image on the wall and painting.
How fun... As I have posted before, we are doing a tile wall at our school this year ( it will be a fundraiser) the kids/parents will buy & paint a tile & we will place it on the wall, if that dose not work for your situation, how about a ocean theme, solar system, usa map, or flag?? We have all these at our school. Also we do after school enrichment classes and this year one is Wall mural. We will find a graphic we like, print it on a transparent paper, blow it up big on the wall by using a projector. Then we will trace the graphic ( put numbers that go with what color it should be painted ie: #1=red 2=blue etc...) then the kids can come in & paint. If you are doing the mural alone w/out kids you can still use the projector to make it great, if you lack free hand art skills. Good Luck!! This may be a bit off of regular subjects, however i need help. I have been given a section of a wall at school to do a mural around the water fountain. If anyone has any ideas, pictures, websites that would help , or anything please post a message or email me at: This email address is being protected from spambots.
