Hi. As a 1 year old board member I can tell you it was hard and frustrating at times, but in the end the kids are happy and they appreciate alot of it and it makes it all worthwhile. Reading "Dont sweat the samll stuff" is a GREAT idea!!!!, because there is alot of small stuff....
We just had our new elections and 3 of the 6 old Board members are on it again, and 2 other extremely helpful volunteers will be around. This next year is going to be better because we kinda know what we are doing!!!
This might be a good forum for us "oldies" to give the "newbies" a little of sage advice. Here is my little bit of wisdom: #1 always remember the main reason we all do what we do is to benefit the kids, Sitck around positive people, Stay knowledgable and informed, Keep your integrity, and Read "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff", and "Random Acts Of Kindess". Try to keep things fun, and remember to take care of yourself and your family.
Good luck to you.
Our election is next week and it is going to be nasty. This is the first year that we have had the need for an election. We never had more than one person wanting to do the job.
Should be an interesting meeting.
I have never been in the Exec position before and am like you in being nervous and apprehensive.
You will do a great job if you keep in mind who you are doing it for.
Wishing you a very successful year.
First - my thanks to all who have "bravely gone before me" as the road is well paved and traveled. I have been reading in ernest the comments in "the end is in sight" and have found a mixture of sadness and joy from those whose terms are ending either by choice or not.
Well - my term is just beginning and I accept it with confusion, nervousness and excitement. I do have the luxury of not following someone - my mantra is I can't do it wrong, it's never been done before! We have a brand new school opening and I almost feel as if I need to go to confession admitting that I've not been involved before, other than writing checks and calling grandma to buy stuff. I never knew how much good was done by the organization but boy am I jumping in to get both feet (knees, hips, waist, chest - I think it's up to my chin right now) wet - as I've agreed to be pres. Like I said - I'm nervous but with the help of PTO Today and all the good folks here I know I'll be fine.
Like I said - those of you who have paved the way and THINK you are finished - stay tuned, I'm going to need your help!!!!!!
