That is actually how we got the last sofa!
My husband gave me an idea to ask a woman that he works with in the boutique area of the department store he works at. He said she talks about women always redecorating and it would be worth asking!
The Principal did give me permission (and new letterhead) to write area businesses.
Cross your fingers!
Why not send out a flyer in the fall to staff and parents requesting a couch for the library. Let them know that the donation of a couch would be tax deductible(assuming you are 501c3). We sent out a flyer last year requesting a refrigerator for our PTA for various functions and events. Some people thought we were crazy. However a family donated one they had sitting out in their garage. The bonus is they get to write it off their taxes. Maybe you will be lucky and a parent might own a furniture store.
I just recieved a call from the librarian of our school and she was asking me about going about getting money donated. My first thought was 'great new books!!' No she wants a new sofa donated to our new school library that will open this fall (the school is moving to a new location)and wanted to know how I soon I could get this done!
Can this even be done? I've gotten certificates and many little items but this is new teritory for me! I do live outside of Denver, so I do have many businessesto choose from but how do any of you do this? Do I just do a huge letter mailing??
