Idea...
We're trying this...at our local Big Lots, we bought 2 director's chairs...with the canvas straps. Of course we wanted tan, but had to get navy blue or dark green. We chose blue (a school color.)
We are planning to have each kid ink their thumbs, and place it as a border around the sides of the canvas on the chairs. We will make some thumbs into butterflies, some into ladybugs, some into bees. And we plan on using a fabric pen to write their name around their 'bug."
This is for a first grade teacher. We thought she could use the chairs in her room, as she makes the kids read to her each day, and now they sit on the floor.
The art teacher is helping us, and tried regular paints on the navy blue, but it did not work. She recommended an ink pad filled with fabric paint, so I have to go in search of those.
I have also heard of painting a tablecloth with the handprints of the kids...
What we did was during Art class, each student either drew a picture or wrote something onto a piece of construction paper telling the teacher what it meant to them to have him/her for a teacher this year. The younger classes drew pictures while the older classes wrote something. We put these together to make a book and put some teacher poems in it. They turned out really cute.
Our pto arranges for the teachers to have an hour off one day during appreciation week instead of their usual 30 minutes....and while the volunteer is there the kids are going to make a thank you gift for the teacher. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? I would prefer that it be something inexpensive but also something the teacher could use in the class room. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....Thanks
