need advise?

I am all for standing up and fighting for the right (beleive this). But I also beleive stepping back and letting the enevitable happen may work in your favor here. Take a break, resign, watch it happen. I'm not saying quit helping in say-- your childs class, but take a PTO break. Your Mind will thank you. Your Family will thank you. And tomorrow is another day. Take the time to regroup and plan what your vision of the PTO could be. The next time elections come up be there, lay out your plan professionally and I bet you will get what you want. The trouble a rif may cause will reflect on you if others know the heart break you hold. If you stay in the position and keep the PTO running single handedly for the board you may be seen as a doormat and people will use you. I think I would simply resign stating 'family commitments take a priority right now' and relax -- it will be fine if the PTO gets worse before it gets better.

In response to your posting I can relate to this also.I know what you are feeling.I have not had a good year being President due some things that have happened.I talked to our past President and found out some interesting things I did not catch when I read the by laws that are to be followed. You now really need to look at yours carefully and if anythng is written in them about time of membership or things to that affect they have to be honored. The VP that is at our school PTSC was elected when I was not at the election due to a family emergency out of state. She had only been to 2 meetings last year (only to cause problems ) so on January 16 when we go back to school I am going to call a special meeting of the board and have the title of VP removed from her the only other person who is eligble for this postion is a lady who is my best member in standing.I really think you need to do some investigating like I had to. Hope you can get your problem solved soon since the school year is getting shorter and shorter

Good Luck and don't back down since they opened the can of worms not you.

Just a thought here but what does your by-laws say? Ours say's that before a person can run for an office they have to attend at least half of the general membership meetings. If that is not in there it really should be. If I am reading your post right you also have no VP...who is taking those responsibilities? Also, did you have an election or did the old president have to step down during the year? If that is the case the VP usually steps in to the president position until the next election. I would suggest that if it really the president seat that you want then just do your duties as sec. until the next election and let the current pres. see how hard this job is. He will soon realize what is expected of him and that this position requires a lot of time a dedication. P.S. how can you hold a general membership meeting if the president only speaks Hispanic...does everyone understand him??? Good luck:)

Here goes my dilemma; for the past 7 years my girlfriend has been President of PTO just last month she pulled her 3 kids out? I knew for sure that I would be the next PTO President since beside her I was the only one helping out. I have always been in the background doing all the leg work it never bothered me that she was always in the spotlight I knew my turn would come.
Well when we had our PTO meeting my girlfriend told be I should wait to see if there is anyone else that would be willing to be PTO President. During the meeting a Hispanic gentlemen (Spanish speaking only) volunteered for the position and everyone agreed he would be the next PTO President, I was chosen as Treasurer (since I helped my girlfriend perform all the duties everyone thought I should keep up with the books). We did not get a VP. Two moms went for the sec. position.
None of these people have ever come to a PTO meeting (the new presidents kid has been coming to our school for 3yrs. and on the first time he shows up he is President).
In between our first and second meeting I have been busy with PTO helping out several teachers with Christmas projects, fieldtrips, fun days, ordering classroom supplies, I was asked to purchase the refreshments for our annual winter concert I had no problem (I never have).
At the Winter concert the new PTO Board was presented, We had a lot of people asking why a Spanish speaking President was selected, the Principals answer was if you have a problem show up at the next meeting and we can discuss it then. (Parent who never show up)
At the PTO exec. Board meeting the President was instructed by Principal to “just let them know what you need done”. I do not agree with this. He doesn't know what he is doing and I don't want to keep on doing all this work by my self.
I haven't seen this Presidents face at the school since the first meeting? When all he could talk was 5 de Mayo and how he wants to make it a big thing (he wants a carnival, a dance and a big dinner…blah, blah, blah). I am Hispanic but I feel that we should celebrate every culture in the same way?
Sometimes I think I’m crazy to feel this way? I could really use some advice?
