Michelec:

I tried to get as much information for you. However, all I was told is that you would need to research what kind of programs your Board of Ed is running for different age groups.

This teen program was being runned by the Board of Ed in my town and my friend who is a social worker volunteered to work with a few kids during the summer months.

I would do a search ("google.com" gives me a lot more than other search engines)in your state to see what grants may be offered in your area.

good luck.

Thanks Martineza! I am very excited about the project and would like to get in contact with any and all folks that are doing similar work. Do you have written materials that you would be willing to share on your program? And what about the teen program--is there a contact name or address I could go for more information?

Thanks

Anyone else?

That sounds great. I am starting a pto for a daycare project that was started years ago in our community. They have a similar structure, and most of their funding comes from "DYFS"(for infants), the board of education (for pre-k and kinder) various grants that were made available for low income areas, and if I am succesfull with it the pto.

For what I understand there is funding depending on the need of the community. I also know of social workers at the daycare program that are working with teens and the funding for that came from a grant that was made available last year.

Hope this helps, good luck

Our school is in the process of starting up a Family Resource Center. This center will provide resources connections to community resources that can support families in our school as well as providing some social activities for families. Our direct, in-house linkages will be with the social worker and psychologist, and eventually have a part or full time resource specialist (depending on funding). The Goodwill committee (part of the PTO) will work closely with the resource specialist to make sure that families who are in need of services (clothes, food, childcare, respite, etc.) can be hooked into community based services. Some ideas we have thus far are a nursery playgroup, afterschool programs for the kids/parent teams and maybe daytime classes for parents (could be anything from crafting to computer training, etc.)

I am wondering if anyone out there is currently doing something like this and what resources you could suggest we investigate to get this project going. We are very excited to get moving on it and have a budget of seed money (approximately $10,000)to get it going. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
