Ask one of the local radio stations to come to do a live show during the picnic.
Create a scavenger hunt in/around the school to get the student reacclimated to the building and to their new classrooms and teachers. Our back to school picnic has a pretty low turn out by teachers, while there are MANY families that come to enjoy the evening outside with other families.
Raffle items acquired or purchased by the PTO--even if it is a small item such as a movie rental or ice cream sundae from a local shop. Pharmacies might make a donation of magazines or nail polish or notebooks/school supplies, etc. Certificate for lunch with the principal or the honor of working as "principal for a day".
If possible, try to invite students, parents and teachers to your function. In September, we have meet the teacher night.
If your budget allows, try not to charge for anything. Our PTO sponsors all events at the school with no charge. In some cases, people may not be able to afford coming to the events. We just try to promote school spirit.
Some fun ideas--music (Brittany Spears, Back Street Boys), parachute games, teacher games (limbo, ymca, macarena), face painting, sand art tables,
Hope I could help
Hello everyone;
I am new to this forum and have a question for all of you. My school will be having a Welcome Back to School Picnic in Sept. I am looking for ideas for games and entertainment. If anyone has done this before or has any ideas please let me know. I have the usual 3-legged race, watermelon eating contest, sack race, bird seed dig. I am having Cotton Candy, Popcorn and we are selling hot dogs and hamburgers. This is the second year we have tried this. Last year I helped but this year I am in charge. I would appreciate your suggestions.
Thank you
Jodi
