How do you view occasional volunteers?

I totally agree with all of the above. The ONE thing that drives me absolutely nuts is parents who say "I work" as if that gets them completely off the hook! I find that working parents sometimes use that as an excuse and that makes me mad - and sad. I mean, I work too, in a paying job, and in this PTO president job too (nonpaying!) I would welcome YOU to anything you would be willing and able to do! Enjoy every moment of your daughter enjoying your involvement!

That's the spirit! It really is a great idea to get your child(s)insight into what area he/she thinks your involvements are. I know that taking a day off to help out will definitively make a big impact with your child. Your help is greatly appreciated, I'm sure of this.

Thanks to everyone for the great encouragement! Here's a thought: when the volunteer sheet came around this year, I asked my daughter what she wanted me to participate in. She had strong feelings about the best activities from her perspective! So I signed up for them, and I will pitch in however I can. It helps motivate me to know she especially values my help with these events. In fact, I've even agreed to take a day of vacation to help with hobby day. I wish I could help more, but if I can only help a little, it might as well be what means something to her.

Any volunteering is greatly appreciated, whether you can do one or more committees, etc. Not everyone this day and age are able to be at the school as much as the teachers. It would be wonderful if we could be back in the "June Cleaver" day and age, but realistically parents are only able to give a portion of their time.
And like I said, any time that is given to help out your organization is a great help.

volunteers are greatly needed and I think if something is going on and you haven't been called to help just show up and help anyway.
As a PTO Pres. we like "POP IN" volunteers too. =)

I am an active board member of a PTO in Vernon, CT. In answer to your question about part-time volunteering, I say, Thank you...... PTO's can't survive without volunteers. I would take all the part-timers I could get....
