Hi Lookin' for Help,

You could also consider reaching out and offering help to this PTO, parent group to parent group, and let them take the lead in any discussion about possible enrollment. If inquiries spring naturally from discussions, then you could offer them more information.

Try sending a note as Laura states saying you were sorry to hear of the closing and can you offer help to this group.

"We were so sorry to read that your school is closing. Since our school size and values seem to be similar, we would like to get to know you so that you can see whether our school is a potential fit for your children.

We know how difficult a time this is. We are having (XXXXXX event) and would love to have you attend as our guests."

I'd say something like the above.

Okay, maybe this is tacky and perhaps not the right place, but I need some advice. We are an independent school in an area where several other independent schools will be closing soon. One of them is nearby and we'd like to invite them to check out our school (which is NOT in danger of closing). Our principal has suggested our PTO make the first contact with their PTO, kind of parent to parent before stepping it up the ladder to admin. I have her contact info, but what do I say so I don't sound like I'm a vulture? They know their school is closing and the announcement was made in the papers so everyone else does too.

There will be several other schools courting their families, but they're already overly full. We are a smaller school and more in line with the style of school they built. Judging by their PTO activities, we are also very similar there. Several years ago we were in the same boat, but by a miracle, we were able to turn things around. How do I express our understanding of their situation without rubbing it in their faces that we were able to do what they couldn't?
