Gail --Many of the skills needed to work on at PTO/PTA can translate nicely to the business world -- management, public speaking, event planning, public relations, marketing. We hear from lots of moms who say their PTO/PTA skills will go on their resume. As far as an actual PTO/PTA related job, I actually don't know how the national PTA association works, but you could look into that. Best of luck! Rose C
I have had several friends that started out as stay-at-home moms or in some other career but were very into volunteering at school who later ended up taking a staff position.
One had been out of the job market for several years and used her extensive volunteer experience in her resume. Hers was some sort of textbook handling or library position. She used me as a reference and I remember the interviewer calling. We had a long conversation where I shared how different volunteer efforts would translate well into business skills.
Another became a resource person/aid. A third works in the school office now.
These jobs aren't exactly the same tasks as PTO volunteering but they all seem to like being at the schools.
In terms of the PTA/PTO skillset, I find it most similar to event management in the business world.
I love my involvement in PTA/PTO as was thinking about making this a full-time job if I could find some permanent job associated with the PTA/PTO. Anyone have any ideas? I know being part of my school's PTA is a volunteer basis, but I really enjoy it. Thanks!
