This isn't about a PTO, but I thought it was hilarious and that some of you surviving the difficulties of officer recruitment would enjoy it.
There's an intergovernmental committee comprised of 16 different agencies that meets monthly to discuss state business. The group has a President and Vice President who each hold 2 year terms, ideally with the VP movin up to Pres.
They've had real problems getting anyone to step up at the end of each cycle. This year, they've been encourging one of the 16 reps to volunteer or else, they'd just draw out of a hat. (Agency names, not people's names. Then whomever was the designated rep for the agency would assume the role.)
Apparently at the last meeting they got frustrated and decided that was it! They were drawing agency names out of a hat and assigning years so everyone had a turn. So with 16 member organizations and 2 year terms, they now have the President and VP assignments for the next THIRTY-TWO years!
Unfortunately, not a model that would work for our PTOs, but I thought it was rather inventive.
