We did something similar to this last year. We had a walk-a-thon for cancer. If we raised a certain amount of money the principal had to jump off of the diving board, we also had a few teachers do it as well. It was at the end of the year so we had it outdoors at a community pool. I do like your idea of doing it indoors, especially if it is in October, weather is so crazy I’m surprised it hasn’t snowed in July. Is the pool you are going to indoors? If not, you could call hotels or even the ymca about using their pool. They may charge a small fee or if you pitch it well they may do it free. I don’t think you need to do anything special as far as getting the kids riled up about her walking the plank, the kids at our school just thought it was so much fun just watching her jump in. She of course dressed in scuba flippers, a swim cap with a large flower and a dinosaur float. Maybe since yours is pirate themed, have her dress for the occasion, or pull a Houdini. Have her hands “tied” and like magic she comes out untied. (She would need to be a basic swimmer for that.)
Every year our school holds a walkathon as our sole fundraiser, the main incentive being the principal participating in some wacky activity if we reach our goal (kiss a pig, duct taped to wall, sleep on the roof of the school, etc).
This year is a pirate theme "sailed to success" and the prinicpal is going to "walk the plank". The only problem is that we can't figure out the logistics for having ger "walk the plank". Originally we thought a doughboy pool full of blue jello (way too much work). Then we thought family night at the community center where we all watch the principal jump from the high dive then have a bbq or movie type thing (it's in October and weather may be an issue).
Anyone have an EASY, ECONOMICAL idea for how we can accomplish her "walking hte plank"?
