Any ideas would help. I'm not even sure how to get the 501 (c) status of if i should just hand over all the money we raise to the school. I don't know if we're so small that we should just skip the bylaws and roberts rules, etc and just have a basic group that tries to help the school. I just know that there needs to be a group because I feel the school is suffering and I also feel someone needs to stand up for these kids. I know of 4 people (plus me) that are willing to participate. No one wants to run it though...so that's were clueless me comes in. I'm confident I can do it, just not sure how and where to start just yet.
At 900 Students in a middle school I have so far managed to get 250 members, but only 9 to 18 volunteers. If the same percentage were to hold true for you, you'd have 1-2 people on your PTO. I'd guess it may be a little easier, but probably not much in a small school. Hopefully some smaller schools will chime in here, but pending no better ideas, I'm wondering about the feasibility of combining efforts with another nearby small school.
Hi! I'm trying to start a PTO at a small private school (less than 100 students) and have gotten as far as setting up a first meeting. All I know is that it's been attempted several times in the past seven or eight years but has never stuck around. Any ideas on how to start would be great. At this point I plan to have an open disscussion (as organized I can keep it) to find out what the parents want from a group like this. Thanks in advance!
