we also switched to a local company three years ago, less complaints by a long slide. our school is the only school he does, he does sports teams, dance team, preschools, but we are the only elementary school and it is great for both of us.
I would call schools in the greater buffalo area and get names of their PTO people.. and then start calling/emailing to get some recommendations. Then ask the prospective companies come and do a presentation, with a proposal.. may the best team win...
Our school used to use LifeTouch for spring/fall pictures and yearbooks. They have switched to Inter-State for next year. The prices are more reasonable for the parents and the dates/cutoffs for the yearbook are more workable for the school.
The PTO is also using the new company to purchase assignment books/take home folders for next year.
Check locally. After a few years of declining quality and service from the national company our school used for the pictures and yearbooks, we've switched to a professional photographer that is right in our town. He does a phenomenal job and his rates are comparable to the old company.
Check it out, get some names and references. Run it by the school admin. That's what happened in our situation. Many parents voiced their concerns and we (the PTO) approached the subject one night in a board meeting with our principal who helped us seek out our new photographer.

We're having problems with the company that does our school pictures and yearbooks. Any suggestions or recomendations would be appreciated?
Thanks
