It took some major Scooby-Doo investigating but we cracked the case!!
A student volunteer, that I cleared personnally, had been e-mailing parents to voluinteer for the High School 5K run this spring. When a parent would e-mail her "no" she went tothe list of volunteers and was clicking "Decline" as a way for her to keep track. Hence the beginning of a parent threatening her lawyer on the school for discrimination!
The parent has been called by the school's director and I owe him a Starbucks!
The student feels terrible but has been accepted to Johnson and Wales SO we have been promised excellent service in whatever hotel she ends up at!
The supervising teacher has taken her student's assignment a little more seriously and is helping on a more helpful basis.
AND thanks to the student's small error, the PTO now has the attention we have been craving to get this program off and runnign for EVERYONE on staff!
Thanks Mike for all your help and hope this helps you down the road!
Only people who have volunteer chair permission levels or higher can "decline" volunteers. The system has this ability because some states require background checks before you are allowed to volunteer. You will need to talk to the folks in your group who have that permission level to see if one of them is making this mistake.
You can always change the wording of default emails in your system so that they say exactly what you want. You might want to change the "declined email" in the system right now just to be safe. Call us at 800-557-2670 and we will be happy to walk you through changing default emails.
Somehow a handful of parents recieved an e-mail from the ptomanager informing them they have been denied volunteering permission. There are only five people that are chairs on our site and I still need to talk with two of them to see if they sent this e-mail that has these parents so upset.
Is there a way to look at send e-mails? Maybe I can narrow it down or something.
In the meantime, my Vice President is doing damage control and (maybe I watch too much CSI) I hoping we can find out who is turning away vounteers.
