It's just hard not to offer a snickers bar to a kid that ate at 11:00 AM and needs to go play a volleyball game! But it's great to have a banana or fruit snacks to her mom that came to watch but had to bring a couple little ones that always seem to be hungry!
The all beef hot dogs have been the biggest expense but worth it as they sell SO much better! OH and coffee! OMGH! Coffee!
I would say our school follows the "mommie common sense" guidelines for our events too. We offer the all-time favorites and we offer some good choices too--we try to make everyone happy---I know impossible to do but we give it a good try!! HA HA!!
I don't think we follow guidelines but I know our new Booster Club is trying to serve more fruit, fruit snacks and healthier drinks. It's funny how the Kitchen Manager is still bent over our Pepesi contract for the consession stand and the kitchen is federal funded lunch program prohibits soda for lunch. Yeah, we reminder her this is after 4:00 the stand opens and Pepsi did put a nice score board in the gym for us!
My point, no hard core guidlines, just "mommy common sense."
There are some good links at the bottom of this site as well. Hope this helps! We can no longer sell cookie dough, candy, etc in our district, so I found the healthy fundraising link helpful.
Does your school/district issue any guidelines for the type of food served at concession stands and extracurricular activities such as PTO activities, dances, family events? (Note, I'm only asking about events held outside the normal school hours.)
If so, can you please share information and/or links to anything published on a website?
Our area is exploring this - not to become unnecessarily restrictive, but more so as part of the district wellness policy. The point is to put some guidelines in place to have groups offer some healthy options along with the time-held favorites that tend to be high in salt, fat, etc.
