Setting Up A PTO Website

Thanks gscaporuscio,
I took over the website 2 years ago when no one else was running it... I revamped it each year with input and suggestions from parents. I'm always looking to make it better. I guess the biggest problem is being able to update it quickly enough. when I took it on, i had no idea it would be so involved, but then again I made it that way since I wanted to add photos from events, a calendar that could be updated weekly. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Foxmom

Fox mom, my kids attend school across the 'street' from you, here in Macomb. I hear your school is a great school and has a lot of activities! Ours doesn't! I see the great ideas and have posted here before. Very creative involved parents!!
I have been on your school's site and it's nice.

We were able to work with our school-- they use frontpage for their foremat and we were able to find a parent that has a web design background and knew front page.... they came up with a design and we were able to link with the schools webpage. we can add pictures front events, we even found a calendar to add in during the 2nd year the website was up. We paid for a domain name to have an easy web address for our parents to remember. The cost for the domain name is only $25.00 a year and well worth it.
check it out. www.foxpto.com . This was a great add on for us. Parents that work are able to keep up to date on events that are going on at the school, even if their kids forget to bring home the flier.

Our Parent/Teacher group used www.teacherweb.com . There is a small annual fee, but it is VERY user friendly and does not go through the public school website.

We also asked that a link to our site be placed on the school's website to make it easier for parents to find.

Here is our site: www.orgsites.com/ma/elmstreetpac

We used orgsites also. It's a great site for those who don't have a lot of web building savy. It also is great since it's free. You can get a feel for whether or not the site is being utilized before spending $$$.

You can visit our site at www.orgsites.com/mi/lcepto

One drawback is that it is a long cumbersome address for people to learn with the orgsites/state/name format. One way to override that is to purchase a domain name and then link it to this site.
