I ran into the same problem with sorting events and listing them. I've tried giving the events a number & catagory in their name. I.e. listing the PTO meetings as #1-Sept PTO Meeting, #2-Oct PTO Meeting, etc. Events and fundraisers are named that way too: Event-Back to School Night, and Fundraiser-Picture Day.
I'm happy to hear that in the next version we'll be able to see events listed by date!
You can determine which of your messages shows first. The sort order is determined by the post date of the message. The most recent post date appears on the top.
As for enhancements and upgrades. We don't have a set time table yet. My best guess is we will have something in January and another one in June. There is no cost to users for upgrades - everything is included in your subscription price.
Your point on sorting events is a good one and something we will change. In the meantime, you can try something that my school is doing. Put letters in front of the event name to force a sort order. For example, you can have an event called AA Boohoo breakfast and that event will show up first and ZZ End of Year Picnic and that event will show up last.
Enhancements... Glad to hear that your will be adding that feature to the next version. Will that apply to events only? What about Messages, will there be a way to arrange/sort those as well? There are things that we "announce" like Cub Scout Rally Night and Girl Scout Night. These are not done by PTO, so we don't enter them as events because we don't need Volnteers.
I found a typo in a Message and when I edited it, it jumped to the top. The problems is that I want to keep an important message about our upcoming Bond Election as the first message - is there a way to do that (now or in the future)?
Also, isn't the program new? Any idea of how long before a new version would be released and what about the cost to "upgrade"?
That's good to know. I have to confess that I had assumed that once an event was over, it just wouldn't show up anymore. Since I've listed all my events in the future, I haven't noticed that they stay on that list forever. (Or, I guess, at least until the end of the school year.)
What I have noticed about the list of events is that they seem to be shown in random order. While the volunteer can sort the list by the name of the event, the location, and the number of volunteers needed, they cannot sort it by date (i.e. the "detail" field).
It seems to me to make the most sense to sort the event list by the date of the event. If I were looking for something to volunteer for, I would most likely look for the next event in time for which volunteers would be needed--not, for example, all the events being held in the cafeteria! Anyone else agree?
Just got a great suggestion from one of our PTO Manager users. This user was concerned that the number of events volunteers will see on the list will become too numerous as the year goes on. The user suggested going back and editing an event once it takes place and deselecting the box that says "Allow volunteers to see this event". This way old events will not show up when your volunteers look at the list.
Thought this might help! Always looking for great ideas like this.
