Paying for conferences

18 years 3 weeks ago #106345 by bobblehead
We are fortunate enough to live close to Marlborough, MA so our trip is only just over an hour. No hotel expenses and I am a PTO Plus member so our 4 pack of tickets were only $20 that our PTO is reimbursing me for. It's way too good of a deal for us to pass up.

We were thinking this too!!! If we have a few of us go the expense would be spread between. The only thing would be the airfare none of them are within driving distance.

Our group paid for the conference fees and the girls split the cost of the gas and hotel. Last year we went to Nashville, 6hrs for us. It wasn't that expensive. We got two rooms (5 of us) one slept on a roll away bed. We had a ball, really came up with great ideas. Plus, we are closer now and work better with one another.

If you can afford it I would try and work in. This is a great experience. We are trying to plan for this year as well. However, it's a busy month for all so we will have to wait and see.

Hi my3strong -

We've actually surveyed on this question (we were curious, too), and here's what we found:

Roughly 80% of conference entrance fees were paid with group funds.

When we had the longer conferences, about 40% of hotel bills were paid entirely with group funds (65% were paid entirely or partially with group funds).

Roughly 50% of attendees were reimbursed for travel costs (much higher among distant attendess, much lower among very close attendees).

In our Expo model, the tickets are only $10 -- so hopefully that $$ challenge is less now. Hope to see you.

Do you pay for your own expenses for the conferences or does your PTO pay any or all of the expenses and what do they pay? I was just curious on how each PTO does it. I am really interested in going but I can't foot the bill entirely myself.
