Reply to Mary,
Boy, can I relate to your post. I am treasurer of PTA. The president has been ill and since its just us 2, I am doing everything. She hasn't been sharing much with me, so I am in the middle of a fundraiser, doing the best I can. The only thing I can tell you, is use the internet for research and talk to other PTA people in your town. I need information on grants available for PTA if anyone knows of any out there. My objective is to bring parents into our PTA this year. If I can help Mary in any way, contact me.
everyones bylaws are different but for most the same. Check out everyones websites. Ours has our by laws on there and many others do too.
But do agree do a seach engine of bylaws and you will find what you need. Sometimes you may have to go and change them down the road but it gets you started.
Oh boy, you are starting at square one! I am sure there are more experienced than I who can comment but I think by-laws are a great start. Do a google search for by-laws and you'll get lots of hits.
Read this forum for LOTS of good ideas. I was a PTO president last year and got so many great ideas from this group.
You may have to start small with one fundraiser and a few family events but with success, I know it will grow.
Good luck!

who has been sweating out Rita all day!
I recently was elected pres of our pts and the problem is we hanve no bylaws, NO parent involvement(I mean NONE)just the officers. This has happened over the last two years under different officers and I want to repair the problem. I really like the principal that I am working with but I feel like he is my boss and we do not operate independently. For this reason I see the bylaws as a start but what other suggestions would anyone have.
